Rahona Valley

Seriously. Good. If you enjoy your wines and prefer a more intimate experience talking to owners who live and breathe the wine, come discover Rahona Valley.

Seriously. Good.
We don’t aim to make everything.
We don’t aim to be everywhere but we aim to be seriously good.

Whether it is a relaxed cellar door experience, where you can enjoy wines in comfort without the crowds, learn a little and savour the wine, or devour a cheese plate that is to die for, we aim to make your visit seriously memorable.

Seriously. Commited.
To make great wine takes a lot of hard work and time.

Our estate vineyard, established in 1991, is nestled in bushland in the valley protected from winds. The growing conditions are excellent, with yields kept low through pruning, while ripeness in this cool maritime area is enhanced through the vineyard's northerly aspect and vertical trellising system. Using sustainable farming techniques means no harsh herbicides are used and the soil retains its fertility. Our babydoll sheep help keep the weeds and grass at bay in the off season and during growing season Toby spends hours whipper snipping and mowing the entire vineyard. That's commitment.

Our grapes are hand-picked and sorted, ensuring only the best fruit makes it into the bottle.

Our Pinot Noir is barrel mature and bottle aged before release, that's why you won't find our 2017 Pinot Noir on sale until 2019. We give our Pinot Noir time to develop into a silky smooth delicious wine.

Our sparkling wine is also made with care and patience. Like Champagne, our sparkling is made in the traditional method, with a minimum of 3 years on lees, the favours develop and sing in harmony. Patience really is a virtue in winemaking.

Rahona Valley is a true 'Pinot' specialist. The estate's wines are all produced from a single 4 acre vineyard, consisting of 5000 close planted vines. This small estate is dedicated to making Pinot Noir that is a true expression of the 'terroir' and season. Five clones of Pinot Noir are planted (MV6, D5V12, G5V15, 115 and D2V5), along with a small parcel of Pinot Meunier and Pinot Gris.

Here at Rahona Valley, the vines are mature and the drinkers are noticing the difference.

Made exclusively from our Rahona Valley Block from five clones - MV6, 115, G5V15, D2V5, D5V12. Pinot Noir is the holy grail of grape varieties. It must be grown in the right place and be given much love to get fully ripe but do so slowly.

Rahona Valley Pinot Gris

Single Vineyard Pinot Gris made from Mary's Block in Main Ridge. Pinot Gris grown in the wrong region that ripens too quickly can be dead boring. Fortunately this was grown in a very good region! This is a wonderful expression of the variety...

Rahona Valley Mary's Block Gewurztraminer

This wine is a surprise! A strong varietal Gewurz nose, with prominent lychees along with some apples and pear skin. The palate reverberates with spice from start to finish, with an attractive slipperiness and great length. A small amount of...

Rahona Valley Kaye's Block Riesling
Rahona Valley Kaye's Block Riesling

In Germany, this would be called a Spatlese style; it tends to be called off dry in Australia. All of which means it is a bit sweet but not extremely so. It shows lovely blossoms and limes on the nose and then its natural acidity gives it effortless

Rahona Valley Late Harvest Riesling
Rahona Valley Late Harvest Riesling

This style is rather more like a German Auslese style; it is very sweet and proudly intended to be a rich, dessert style wine. Sometimes Auslese styles have Botrytis influence but not in this case. It features riper citrus notes on the nose, nudging
