Elgee Park Family Reserve Pinot Noir 2013
6th & 8th March 2013
Aromas of dark cherries, chocolate & a touch of violets.
Full bodied with cherries, cocoa & spice. Maturation in French oak barrels adds complexity & structure with a long, silky tannins on the finish. An outstanding vintage.
2013 vintage – began with a cool, wet Winter, filling the soil with moisture. As cool humid Spring opened up to an exceptional sunny and dry January, February and March, harvest was brought forward creating an outstanding vintage.
The Pinot Noir was handpicked, then 100% destemmed, with minimal crushing, into small open fermenters, where a natural fermentation commenced after a few days, and the total maceration was for 16 days. The wine was pressed and settled overnight before transfer to barrels (30% new) for malolactic fermentation and maturation. The wine was given one racking off gross lees in the winter, and bottled in December 2013.
